Why Your Posture Matters More Than You Think

I spent a year blaming my neck pain on stress. It turned out to be something far more boring: my posture.
The chain reaction
Slouch in a chair for years and the body quietly adjusts:
- Shoulders round forward
- Head stretches to reach the screen
- Breathing becomes shallow
- Neck and back muscles work overtime
The result masquerades as exhaustion, headaches and poor focus.
The 3 fixes that helped me
- Screen at eye level — books or a stand; stop looking down at a laptop
- Sit with a gap between the chair back and your lower back, then fill it with a small cushion
- Movement breaks — 2 minutes of stretching for every 30 minutes of sitting
The desk check
Elbows at 90°
Feet flat on the floor
Screen top at eye height
Keyboard close enough to relax your shoulders
Why it sneaks up on you
Bad posture feels comfortable — for a while. That is exactly why it is so common. What is comfortable today is often what hurts tomorrow.
Fix your setup once, and the rest of the day — and your neck — quietly thanks you.
