When you want to rank in Google without a six-month project, start with the pages you already have. These three wins use existing content and can move within weeks.
Win 1: Improve pages ranked 8 to 20
Open Google Search Console. Look for queries where you sit between positions 8 and 20. Google already thinks those pages are relevant; they just need a push.
- Add the exact phrase to the title and first paragraph.
- Add a short section answering the question directly.
- Add internal links from related posts.
Win 2: Add internal links
Every page should link to the pages it is related to, and they should link back. Internal links pass relevance and help Google discover your best pages.
- Link from popular posts to the pages you want to rank.
- Use descriptive anchor text, not "click here".
- Aim for two or three useful internal links per post.
Win 3: Refresh your best old posts
Take your best three posts and update them: new examples, a clearer answer, an updated year. Google rewards recency, and old posts usually have the links and history you need.
The order to do them in
- Fix the near-misses first — they are closest to moving.
- Add the internal links in the same pass.
- Refresh old winners last, since they take a little longer to re-rank.
None of this needs new content. It uses the pages you have.
Common questions
How fast can I rank in Google?
Improving a page already ranking between 8 and 20 can move within weeks. Brand-new pages usually take three to six months.
Do internal links really help rankings?
Yes. They pass relevance between your pages and help Google understand which are important. They are one of the easiest wins available.
Should I update old blog posts or write new ones?
Do both, but update first. Refreshing a post that already ranks is faster than starting from zero.
Can I rank in Google for free?
Yes. Search intent, page structure, internal links and consistency cost nothing. Free tools in Search Console show you exactly where to start.
