If you run a local business, you do not need to rank nationally — you need to show up when someone nearby searches. That is local SEO.
The single most important step
Claim and fill out your Google Business Profile. It is free and it is where local results and maps listings come from.
Make it complete
- Correct name, address, phone number
- Business category
- Real photos of your premises
- Opening hours (update them when they change)
Get reviews — genuinely
Reviews are the strongest local signal. Ask happy customers directly. Reply to every review, good or bad — it signals you care.
Consistent business info everywhere
Your name, address and phone must match on your website, Google, Facebook and directories. Even tiny mismatches confuse Google.
Local content
Write one page on your site per location, and answer local questions:
"What are the best [service] options in [suburb]?"
The simple checklist
- Google Business Profile claimed
- 10+ genuine reviews
- NAP consistent everywhere
- Location page on your website
Local SEO is less competitive than global SEO. Do the basics well and you will quietly outrank bigger brands in your area.
