Hosting is where your website lives. Here is what the options actually mean.
Shared hosting
Your site shares one server with many others. Like sharing an apartment.
- Good for: small sites, blogs, starting out
- Pros: cheap, easy
- Cons: slow neighbours can slow you down
VPS (Virtual Private Server)
A server split into private rooms — each site gets its own space and resources.
- Good for: growing sites, online stores
- Pros: more control, more reliability
- Cons: needs a little technical know-how
Cloud hosting
Your site runs across many connected servers. If one fails, another takes over instantly.
- Good for: anything you want to stay up
- Pros: extreme reliability, scales up when you get busy
- Cons: can be pricier, pricing can be confusing
Dedicated
A whole physical server just for you. Expensive, powerful, overkill for most.
Rule of thumb: start shared, move to VPS or cloud the day your site outgrows it. Most sites never need more.
The metric that matters most
Ignore the marketing. Ask the host: "How fast do you respond when things break?" Support quality beats every spec on the page.
